The Next New Thing

The next new thing that I want to create for baseball is some sort of nano device can be placed onto baseball equipment in order to track the process during a game. For example, in baseball if this nano device was implement onto baseball bats, you'll be able to get track your performance such as how fast are you swinging the bat, how hard did you make contact with the ball and many more batting tendencies. Likewise, this technological device can be place onto your glove to help track how fast the ball is coming at you, it can help understand of how are you catching the baseball in different locations on the glove and other fielding analysis. This device would be useful for all baseball players that can help improve their skills on or off the field.

  1. That's a great idea not just for baseball, but for other sports as well. As an avid fan of football (soccer) I read all the time how analytics and statistics is being used to track every little aspect of a players performance. It really shows the players strengths and some of the areas they need to work on. I was recently reading an article about wearable technology and how a company uses heat sensors on a players shirt to track their movement on the field. So wearable technology and analytics as you say is indeed the future of sports performance.

  2. I also agree with Suhrob that this idea can be applied to other sports. It would be amazing if the NBA had an integrated chip into the basketball that could track distance, height, and speed. I think the future of sports decision making will be rooted in statistical data rather than intuition or individual thought. Coaches will no longer use a traditional marker and board to draw out plays but rather will use a tablet that will output the optimal play based on the situation and previous data (like something similar to the playbook option in Madden games).

  3. Great idea!

I think there are some products out there that attach to things like golf clubs and golf balls to track info, but nothing on the nano stage. As we all know, we're living in a world where data analytics is extremely important. Understanding every aspect of data is how we are able to improve our technology. So, a device like this would let us do that, and would be a great use of new media.
